July, 2024: Goals

It is so true that as you study, practice, and learn, you realize how much more there is to study, practice, and learn. Here’s what I’m working on for this year…keeping in mind that all that I have learned in the past needs attention as well.

-continue to explore and experiment with chromatic (closed chord) technique to develop skill in playing smoothly to approximate the effect created when playing open chord style on a diatonic autoharp especially with tunes that have complex chord structures and require a chromatic autoharp.

-develop and practice fingering (picking) exercises to improve dexterity, speed, virtuosity for playing faster and more complex tunes, particularly chromatically. I am working a booklet of fingering exercises that I hope to self-publish this year.

-explore and develop skill in playing tunes with complex rhythms, such as ragtime, blues, and classic popular tunes from the early 20th century.

-develop arrangements for sophisticated and artful tunes from the early and mid-1900s for diatonic and chromatic autoharp.

-refresh and improve diatonic open-note picking technique for greater accuracy and speed

-develop instrumental and vocal song list for concerts as a featured performer at music festivals
